7 Ways To Save Money On Your TV Watching In 2021 With On-Demand Services

Author: Sean

Today we are spoilt for choice when it comes to our TV, and watching the TV can be cheap or become very expensive.

Choosing on-demand services, or cord-cutting as it’s often referred to, is not just about reducing the costs of your TV watching, it’s more about the flexibility of watching what you want when you want, cost is still an important factor.

As the TV landscape continues to evolve, it’s only a matter of time before we see more and more on-demand services. And with that in mind, we’ve compiled some of the best ways for you to save money on your TV watching in 2021.

So, here are 7 top tips I have come up with to save money on your TV watching using on-demand services:

Contents

1. Cancel your cable/satellite subscription

This was certainly one of the factors I took myself. I moved to just on-demand for both the flexibility but also cutting cost. Although I still pay a subscription to some services, I removed that large chuck of outgoing to the cable/satellite services. Just watch out for any penalty cost if you are still in contract.

2. Cancel your TV License (UK)

This can save you up to £160/year if your a UK resident. However, it’s a tricky one. If you watch any live TV in the UK you will need a TV license. If you watch iPlayer you will need a TV license.

However, you CAN cancel your TV licence if you:

  • Never watch (or record) any LIVE TV on ANY device
  • Never watch BBC iPlayer (live or on-demand) on ANY device

So if you make sure to ONLY watch on-demand services such as Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, etc (NOT on-demand services from the BBC such as iPlayer as you need a licence for that) and not live TV and you can ditch that licence.

3. Get a free trial to Amazon Prime Video

Personally I love Amazon Prime. I watch a lot of their video content and as a bonus I take advantage of their next day delivery, limited free kindle library and music library.

At the moment Amazon offers a 30 day free trial of their service if you wanted to check out what is available. Free trials are always good.

4. Get s free trial to BritBox UK

The BritBox UK service has a 1 months free trial, and it lets you watch a good range of shows from the BBC. If you have ever watched BritBox you would know that it brings a variety of past and current British TV programmes, as well as classic British films.

BritBox offer a 7 day free trial for you to take advantage of and try the service. After the trial it is £5.99 a month.

5. Get a free trial on NOW TV

This may all seem like free trials. Free trials are important as if you like the services you may well find that they are saving you money as opposed to your current subscription service.

Now TV offer a free 7 day trial. The other benefit is that if you don’t have a satellite, you can view the Sky channels using this service. You may also find that this service is cheaper than paying the cost for channels you may not view. Being able to change subscription each month is what I personally like. One month I may pay for movies, the next I cancel that 1 part of the service.

6. Cancel your Netflix / NOW TV Subscription when you’re on holiday/busy

So, you’ve got your Netflix or NOW TV subscription and you’re finding it’s expensive at the moment, or you going on holiday or just being too busy to watch. The great thing about these services is you pay monthly for subscription which means you can cancel or change the service when you want to. If you cancel when you’re on holiday or busy for a few weeks then this could save money in the long run.

You simply re-subscribe, update your service when you want to go back to viewing. This is the beauty of cord-cutting services such as Netflix, Now TV and others.

7. Use your time wisely and view programs when you want

We’ve all heard the saying that time is money. The disadvantage of live TV is that you have to watch it when it’s on and so you either miss that episode of your favorite show (and loose that time making money from a project your on, or going out with friends) OR you want it when you want to using an on-demand TV service.

In the long run, this could save you money of missed opportunities.

In conclusion

This blog post is for all of you who are sick and tired of paying high cable prices. The average monthly bill for TV service is now around $90 per month. With the number of ways to watch your favorite shows on-demand, it’s never been easier to cut the cord while saving money at the same time!

Not just that but, you know the feeling, you’re sitting on the couch and your favorite show comes on? But it’s not live so you have to wait until tomorrow for it to come back. You could TiVo it but then what do you do with all your other shows that are recorded? The solution is Demand TV Now. Take the benefits of reduced costs but also the benefit of being able to view your programs in your time.
